Balayage in Wānaka

A balayage that doesn't need a touch-up every six weeks — that's the UKIYO standard. Hand-painted, hand-toned, and built around your hair and your real life.

What balayage looks like at UKIYO

We use Kérastase Blond Absolu and Redken's professional colour line, hand-painted with a feather-light technique that softens the regrowth so you're not in a rebooking spiral every month. Wānaka light is unforgiving — your colour has to look right outdoors. We tone for the lake, not for fluorescent salon lighting.

Who balayage is for

Honest answer: most hair types, except very dark virgin hair where the contrast won't be flattering, or hair that's been over-processed already (we'd recommend repair work first). If you're not sure, book a free consultation — fifteen minutes with one of our stylists and we'll tell you straight.

How long, how much

A full balayage typically runs 2.5–3 hours and starts at $260 for a partial, $380 for full. Wānaka pricing — central Otago rates, salon-grade product. Maintenance toner appointments around 6–10 weeks depending on your hair.

Frequently asked

How often should I get balayage refreshed?

Most clients return every 8–12 weeks. Tourists in Wānaka often book it as a one-off; locals tend to settle into 10-week rhythms.

What's the difference between balayage and foils?

Balayage is hand-painted, with softer regrowth and a more natural sun-kissed feel. Foils give crisper, brighter highlights and more dramatic contrast. We do both — the right choice depends on your hair and the look you're after.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes — fifteen minutes, no commitment. We'll look at your hair, talk through what you want, and tell you honestly if balayage is the right move.
