Genesis is the Kérastase range for hair that sheds or breaks more than it should, whether that's breakage from brushing, shedding after a stressful stretch, or lengths that have gone weak. It's the range we recommend most for hair fall at UKIYO in Wānaka.

Which Genesis product, and how we use it +

Start with the shampoo that suits your scalp: Bain Hydra-Fortifiant if your roots get oily, Bain Nutri-Fortifiant if your hair is drier. Follow with Fondant Renforçateur on the mid-lengths and ends, or swap in the Masque Reconstituant once or twice a week when ends feel dry. The Sérum Anti-Chute Fortifiant goes straight onto the scalp and is the step we'd keep if you only buy one. Défense Thermique protects before the hairdryer, which matters when breakage is the problem.

Genesis Homme is the men's version, with a thickening shampoo, serum and a texturising wax. Shedding that's sudden or patchy is worth a chat with your GP too. Questions we get asked +

How do I use the Kérastase Genesis serum?
Apply the Sérum Anti-Chute Fortifiant to the scalp, parting the hair in sections and using the dropper so it goes onto skin, not hair. Massage it in with your fingertips. It's a leave-in, so don't rinse it out. Kérastase recommends daily use on a clean or dry scalp. You can style as normal afterwards. Our Genesis serum guide covers it step by step.

What's the difference between Genesis and Genesis Homme?
Genesis Homme is the men's version, built for shorter hair. It includes a thickening shampoo (Bain de Masse Épaississant), its own scalp serum and a texturising wax (Cire d'Épaisseur Texturisante) that adds grip without weighing hair down. The standard Genesis range has more conditioning steps, like the Fondant and Masque, which suit longer lengths. Either serum is used the same way, on the scalp daily.

Which Genesis shampoo should I choose?
Go by your scalp. Bain Hydra-Fortifiant suits roots that get oily within a day or two. Bain Nutri-Fortifiant is the richer one, for drier scalps and lengths that feel rough. If you're not sure, think about how your roots look the day after washing. Greasy by evening means Hydra-Fortifiant; still comfortable two days later points to Nutri-Fortifiant.

Will Genesis stop my hair from falling out?
Kérastase positions Genesis for hair fall due to breakage, meaning strands snapping along the length, and for hair that feels weaker than it used to. It's cosmetic hair care, not a medical treatment. Sudden, patchy or ongoing shedding has lots of possible causes, so see your GP or a dermatologist first. Our thinning hair guide has more on what to look out for.

What is the Genesis Cure Anti-Chute?
It's a course of single-use scalp ampoules, a more concentrated option than the everyday serum. Each one is applied to the scalp and massaged in, then left in. Kérastase sells it as a course, so it works best used consistently through the full box rather than here and there. Most clients we see use it alongside the Genesis shampoo.
