Keratin bond extensions

Keratin bond extensions are the most versatile method we offer, and they're what Jack is known for. Small strands of hair are attached to your own with a keratin bond, one section at a time. Because each bond is independent, the set moves the way your hair moves — you can tie it up, part it anywhere and wear it however you like.

Bonds suit most hair types, including hair that's too layered or too short for tape. They're the better choice if you want real length rather than just thickness, if you wear your hair up often, or if you've found tape-ins showed through a fine top section. They need hair in reasonable condition to hold onto — Jack will tell you at consultation if yours isn't there yet.

A full head takes around four hours. Jack colour-matches the hair to yours first, places the bonds section by section, then cuts and blends the whole set into your own hair. That last step is the one most people skip and it's the difference between extensions that look expensive and extensions that look applied.

Brush from the ends up with a soft bristle brush, twice a day. Wash with a sulphate-free shampoo, keep conditioner off the bonds, and dry the roots rather than going to bed damp. Plait it loosely at night. Bonds are moved up every three to four months — never pick at them yourself.

Three to four months in place before they need moving up. How long the hair itself lasts depends on how you care for it — looked after well, a good set of hair is often reusable for a second fitting.

Fitted at the right weight and removed properly, no. Problems come from sets that are too heavy for the hair holding them, or from bonds left in months past their move-up. Removal is a salon job — the bonds are broken down with solution, never pulled.

Tape is flatter, faster and gentler, and it's usually the better first set. Bonds give more length, more movement and work on hair that tape can't grip. If you wear your hair up a lot, bonds hide better. Jack will make the call with you at consultation.

Yes, but keep heat away from the bonds themselves and use a heat protectant. The hair is real hair, so it behaves like yours — it just can't repair itself, which makes protecting it more important, not less.
