Hair Salon for Queenstown Clients — UKIYO Wānaka

The hair salon worth the 50-minute drive

FROM QUEENSTOWN

The hair salon worth the 50-minute drive

We see Queenstown clients in our chair every week. The reason is simple: Wānaka pricing, salon-grade product, and stylists who aren't doing 12 clients a day on a tourist conveyor belt. The drive is 50 minutes through some of New Zealand's best scenery.

What our Queenstown clients save

Balayage in Queenstown's premium salons typically runs $440–520. At UKIYO it's $380. A cut + colour day at our salon is $80–120 cheaper than equivalents in Queenstown — without the production-line feel. The petrol pays for itself first visit.

How to make the day easy

Book the morning slot, do your colour and lunch in Wānaka township (we'll send you to Big Fig or Federal Diner), pick up some haircare on the way out, drive home in afternoon light. Half-day excuse to leave Queenstown for a weekend.

The Wānaka difference

We're a small studio — six chairs, deliberately quiet, no walk-in chaos. Stylists who finish their consultations and don't rush. The kind of salon you go to once and tell two friends about.

Frequently asked

How long is the drive from Queenstown to Wānaka?

About 50 minutes via the Crown Range Road (the scenic route — recommended in good weather) or 1h10 via SH6. Plenty of parking on Helwick Street or the lakefront.

Can I do colour and a cut in one trip?

Yes — we always book that as one combined service. Plan for 3–4 hours total in salon. Plenty of time to grab lunch in town in between.

Are you cheaper than Queenstown salons?

Generally yes — $80–120 cheaper for equivalent services. We're not a budget salon though; we use premium product and pay our stylists well. The price difference is location, not quality.
