Kérastase Densifique NZ: Fuller Hair When It's Got Finer
Short answer: Kérastase Densifique is for hair that has become finer and flatter over time, not hair that's falling out. Wash with Bain Densité and condition with Fondant Densité. Both use hyaluronic acid to make each strand feel fuller and springier, and most people notice more body from the first wash. If you're finding more hair than usual in the brush, start with Genesis instead.

"My hair used to be so much thicker" is something we hear in the chair every week. Often nothing dramatic has happened. Nobody's losing handfuls in the shower. The ponytail is just smaller than it was five years ago, the roots sit flat by lunchtime and the ends look see-through. Age does it, hormones do it, and so do years of colour and heat.
That's the problem Densifique was made for.
What does Kérastase Densifique do?
Densifique works on the hair you've already got and makes each strand feel thicker. It's built on hyaluronic acid, which holds water and plumps the fibre, and Kérastase's Intra-Cylane technology, which adds body inside the strand. The result is hair that feels denser and bouncier, with more lift at the root, without the coated, heavy feel of a lot of volumising products.
What it doesn't do is grow new hair. Nothing you wash with does, and anyone selling a shampoo that promises it is overselling.
Densifique products and NZ prices
| Product | What it is | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Bain Densité 250ml | Densifying shampoo | $57.12 |
| Fondant Densité 200ml | Lightweight densifying conditioner | $70.56 |
| Densifique Duo (Bain + Fondant) | The two together | $127.68 |
How to use it
- Bain Densité: massage into a wet scalp, rinse. If you use dry shampoo or styling products, wash twice; the second lather is the one that actually cleans and lifts the root.
- Fondant Densité: mid-lengths and ends only, a minute, then rinse well. Keeping conditioner off the root is half the battle with fine hair.
- Dry it upside down for the first 70% with a blow-dryer, then finish the right way up with a brush. This does more for volume than any product.
That's the whole routine. Fine hair does better with fewer products, so don't stack a mask, a leave-in cream and an oil on top. If your ends are dry, a drop of a light oil like Chronologiste L'Huile de Parfum on the very tips is plenty.
Densifique or Genesis?
This is the question we get most, and it comes down to your brush:
- More hair in the brush, shower or pillow than there used to be: that's hair fall. Start with Genesis and its daily scalp serum.
- Brush looks normal, but your hair looks thinner and flatter: that's density, and Densifique is the one.
- Both: very common, especially after 40 or after a baby. Use the Genesis serum on your scalp every day and wash with Bain Densité and Fondant Densité.
Who Densifique suits
- Fine hair that goes flat a few hours after styling.
- Hair that's got thinner with age or through perimenopause and menopause.
- Coloured hair that's lost its body. Densifique is colour-safe.
- Anyone who's tried "volumising" supermarket shampoos and found they just dry the hair out.
It's less suited to thick hair that's simply dry. That hair wants Nutritive.

Kérastase Densifique questions
What is Kérastase Densifique used for?
For hair that has become finer, flatter and less dense over time. It makes each strand feel thicker and adds body. It's not designed for hair that's actively falling out; that's what Genesis is for.
What's the difference between Kérastase Densifique and Genesis?
Genesis is for hair falling out because it's weakened and breaking. Densifique is for hair that isn't falling much but has lost thickness and body. If you're unsure, check your brush: more hair in it means Genesis.
Does Kérastase Densifique make hair grow?
No. It makes the hair you have feel thicker and fuller. No shampoo or conditioner can grow new hair.
Is Densifique good for fine hair?
Yes, it's made for it. Bain Densité and Fondant Densité are both light enough for fine hair. Keep the conditioner off your roots.
How quickly does Densifique work?
Most people feel more body from the first wash. It builds over the first few weeks of regular use.
Can men use Kérastase Densifique?
Yes, it works the same on any fine hair. If the concern is hair fall at the crown or temples, Genesis Homme is usually the better fit.
