Big colour transformations in Wanaka
Some colour appointments are a tidy-up. Others are a genuine change — a full balayage, a brunette going blonde, fixing a colour that did not go to plan, or finally committing to the look you have been saving on your phone for a year. Those bigger jobs are what our colour stylists Kelsey and Jasmine love most, and what UKIYO in Wanaka is built for.
What a colour transformation involves
A transformation is any colour service that meaningfully changes where your hair started — balayage and hand-painted lived-in colour, a full head of foils, going significantly lighter or darker, a dramatic restyle paired with a new colour, or colour correction to fix banding, brassiness, uneven tone or a previous colour gone wrong. These services take time and planning because they are doing real work to the hair. We use professional Wella, Redken and Kerastase colour throughout, and we build bond protection into every lightening service so the hair stays strong as it changes.
Meet your colourists — Kelsey and Jasmine
Kelsey and Jasmine are UKIYO's colour specialists, and big transformations are their happy place. They take the time to get the consultation right, they are honest about what is achievable in one sitting versus what needs a staged plan, and they care as much about the health of your hair as the colour itself. You can read more about them on their stylist pages — Kelsey and Jasmine — and request whichever of them you would like when you book.
Colour correction — when something has gone wrong
Colour correction is its own skill. Whether it is a box dye that needs lifting out, brassy tones after a holiday, uneven bands from grown-out foils, or a colour from another salon that simply is not what you asked for, correction work is careful, patient and sometimes staged across more than one visit. We will never promise to fix everything in a single afternoon if doing so would wreck the hair. Kelsey and Jasmine will tell you exactly what is realistic, how many appointments it will take, and what it will cost — before we start, not after.
What to expect, and aftercare
Every transformation starts with a proper consultation. Bring reference photos — they genuinely help. We will assess your hair's history and condition, talk through tone, maintenance and budget, and give you an honest plan. A full transformation can run anywhere from two to five hours depending on where you are starting from. Afterwards, the colour is an investment worth protecting: sulphate-free shampoo, a toning or colour-care range, regular treatments, and heat protection every time you style. We will set you up with a simple home routine and the products to match, so your colour holds its tone between visits.
Why UKIYO
UKIYO is a small, considered studio at 28 Helwick Street in central Wanaka. We are not a conveyor belt — colour appointments are given the time they actually need, and our stylists are not rushing twelve clients a day. For a big change, that time and attention is exactly what makes the difference between a colour you tolerate and a colour you love.

Frequently asked
Can you fix a colour from another salon or a box dye?
Yes — colour correction is one of our core specialisms. Kelsey and Jasmine handle correction work regularly. Some corrections are done in one visit, others are staged across two or three to keep the hair healthy. We will give you an honest plan and quote at consultation.
How long does a full colour transformation take?
Anywhere from two to five hours depending on your starting point, your hair's length and density, and the result you want. We will give you an accurate time estimate once we have seen your hair in person.
How do I book a colour transformation in Wanaka?
Book online at apps.kitomba.com/bookings/ukiyosalon or call 03 443 1040. We recommend booking a colour consultation first for any big change so we can plan it properly with Kelsey or Jasmine.
