Hair Toner at Home: The Wella Color Fresh Mask Shade Guide (NZ)
The fastest way to make your colour look freshly done — without booking in — is a colour-depositing mask. Wella Color Fresh is the one we send clients home with.
Colour fades and shifts between appointments: blondes go brassy, brunettes go flat, coppers and reds wash out fastest of all. A Color Fresh Mask drops a sheer wash of pigment back in while it conditions, so your colour stays rich and intentional for weeks longer. It's a conditioner you leave on — no developer, no commitment, no damage.
Which shade for you
- Blue — neutralises orange/brassy warmth in lifted brunettes and darker blondes. Use sparingly.
- Caramel Glaze — warms and enriches mid blondes to light brown; great for keeping bronde looking expensive.
- Chocolate Touch — depth and shine for medium-to-dark brown that's gone flat or faded.
- Copper Glow — keeps copper and ginger tones vivid (these fade fastest, so this is the highest-value one to own).
We carry the full shade wall in salon — if you're not sure, send us a photo and we'll match you.
How to use it (and not overdo it)
- Start with clean, towel-dried hair. Wear gloves.
- Apply evenly through mid-lengths and ends. Leave 3-10 minutes — shorter for a subtle refresh, longer for more payoff. Rinse until water runs clear.
- For cool/toning shades like Blue, start short. You can always go again; you can't take it out.
- Use every 1-2 weeks as your colour fades, not every wash.
For brassy blondes specifically, a purple shampoo in rotation with a toning mask is the strongest at-home combo. Keeping balayage bright? See keeping balayage fresh.
