Kerastase Fusio-Dose: The In-Salon Treatment We Recommend Most

If a client asked us to pick one in-salon treatment to recommend across our menu, this would be it. Kerastase Fusio-Dose is the treatment our stylists quietly book in for themselves, and the one we reach for when a client's hair needs more than a standard mask can offer.

Here's what it actually is, how it works, and who it's for.

What Fusio-Dose Actually Is

Fusio-Dose is a two-part, in-salon-only treatment from Kerastase. It's built around two components: a concentrate and a booster. Both are mixed fresh in front of you, applied to mid-lengths and ends, processed under heat or in the basin, then rinsed.

What makes it different from a standard mask is the customisation. There are four boosters in the system, and we choose the combination based on what your hair actually needs that day — not what's printed on a generic menu.

The Four Boosters

Each booster targets a specific issue. We mix and match.

Booster 1: Substance

For hair that's lost density and feels flat, fine, or weakened. Adds thickness and resilience to the hair fibre itself.

Booster 2: Cica-Repair

For hair with mechanical damage — over-brushing, hot tools, friction from sport or sleep. Rebuilds the cuticle layer and reduces breakage.

Booster 3: Vita-Lumiere

For colour-treated hair that's gone dull or porous. Restores shine, smooths the cuticle, and helps colour read truer for longer.

Booster 4: Densi

For hair that feels thinner than it used to — usually post-pregnancy, post-illness, or stress-related. Creates the appearance and feel of denser hair from root to tip.

Most clients receive a combination of two boosters in a single service. Your stylist will diagnose your hair at the basin and decide on the spot — that's the point of the system.

What Conditions It Treats

We use Fusio-Dose for:

  • Dryness from sun, wind, swimming or alpine air (hello, Wanaka)
  • Colour fade and dullness between appointments
  • Mechanical damage from heat tools or extensions
  • Post-illness or post-pregnancy hair changes
  • Hair that's "fine but lots of it" and lacks body
  • Hair that simply hasn't had a deep conditioning treatment in a long time

If you're a regular colour client, adding a Fusio-Dose to your appointment is one of the most effective ways to keep tone vibrant and prevent the porous-feeling ends that show up around the eight-week mark.

What to Expect in the Chair

The treatment itself adds around fifteen to twenty minutes to your appointment. We'll wash your hair, apply the mixed concentrate and booster, comb it through, then either wrap and process under heat or leave to develop in the basin depending on what your hair responds to best.

You'll feel the difference at the basin — softness, slip, weight that wasn't there before. The visible results land at the blow-dry: more shine, smoother lift, and ends that look like they belong to the same head of hair as the roots.

It's not a permanent fix. Fusio-Dose works best as a course — usually one treatment every four to six weeks for two or three visits — then maintained alongside the right at-home regime. We'll always send you home with the right shampoo, conditioner and mask to extend the result.

Who It's For

Honestly? Most people. But the clients who get the most out of it are those who:

  • Colour their hair regularly
  • Heat style three or more times a week
  • Spend time outdoors in our climate
  • Wear extensions
  • Are growing their hair out
  • Notice their hair "doesn't behave like it used to"

If you've never had an in-salon treatment beyond a basic conditioning mask, you'll feel the difference immediately. If you've had treatments elsewhere that didn't quite deliver, the customisation here is what changes the result.

Pairing It With Your Service

You can book Fusio-Dose as a standalone treatment, or — more commonly — add it to a colour service or sit it alongside one of our other treatments and rituals. It also pairs well with extension move-up appointments, where we can target the natural hair specifically.

For brides, we often build a course of Fusio-Dose into the three months leading up to the wedding. The cumulative effect is exactly the kind of soft, polished finish photographs love.
