Sebastian Penetraitt: The Repair Range for Hair That's Been Through It
Penetraitt is the range we hand people when their hair has had a hard year.
Bleach, a home box dye that went wrong, two summers of sun and lake water, a straightener used every morning since March. By the time someone books a "my hair feels like straw" appointment, the damage is usually structural, not cosmetic — and that needs a repair range, not a moisture range.
Here's the honest breakdown of what's in Sebastian Penetraitt, what each piece does, and how far it will actually get you.
What "repair" means (and what it doesn't)
Nothing puts a split end back together. Anyone selling you that is selling you a story. What a real repair range does is refill the protein and lipids that have been washed out of a damaged cuticle, then seal that cuticle down so the hair stops losing more.
The practical result is hair that combs through instead of snagging, holds a blow-dry, stops snapping mid-length, and looks less frizzy in the same humidity. That's a genuine, visible change. It just isn't reconstruction.
Penetraitt is built around hydrolysed keratin and a bonding complex. It's a protein-leaning system — which is exactly why it works on damage, and exactly why it isn't the right pick for everyone (more on that below).
The four pieces
Rescue Repair Shampoo (280ml)
A gentle, low-stripping cleanser that starts depositing protein from the first wash. This is the piece people most often skip, and it's a mistake — if you're washing with something harsh and then trying to fix it with a mask, you're bailing out a boat with a hole in it. Use it on the scalp, let the suds run through the ends rather than scrubbing them.
Rescue Repair Conditioner (200ml)
Everyday detangling and cuticle-sealing. On badly damaged hair the wet-comb difference is the tell: if your hair currently feels like velcro when wet, this is the piece you'll notice first.
Rescue Repair Mask (145ml)
The heavy lifter. Once a week, on damp towel-dried hair, mid-lengths and ends only, ten minutes. Longer isn't better with a protein mask — it's a treatment, not a marinade.
Overnight Rescue Repair Serum (100ml)
The one people are most sceptical about and end up most attached to. It goes on dry hair before bed and works while you sleep, so it isn't competing with your morning routine for time. For clients who won't sit with a mask on a Sunday, this is how repair actually happens. It's also the piece that makes the biggest difference to next-morning frizz.
Who Penetraitt is right for
- Bleached, highlighted or balayaged hair that's started to feel rough and cotton-wool-ish when wet
- Hair that snaps mid-length rather than just splitting at the tips
- Anyone heat-styling most days
- Hair that's been through a colour correction
Who should pick something else
This is where honesty saves you $50. Penetraitt is protein-forward. If your hair is dry but not damaged — no bleach, no daily heat, just thirsty and dull — too much protein will make it feel stiff and straw-like, which is the opposite of what you wanted. That hair wants moisture: go to Sebastian Hydre instead.
And if what you're actually chasing is bond repair after a big lightening service, NO.BREAKER is the bond-builder in the Sebastian line-up. Penetraitt refills and seals; NO.BREAKER works on the internal bonds. Plenty of people use the two together — NO.BREAKER after colour, Penetraitt as the ongoing routine.
How to run it properly
- Shampoo and conditioner every wash. Mask once a week, serum two or three nights a week.
- If your hair starts feeling stiff or brittle, you've over-proteined it — drop the mask to fortnightly and alternate with a moisture mask.
- Give it four washes before you judge it. Protein repair is cumulative, not instant.
- Get the ends cut. A repair range and a tidy-up together will always beat either one alone.
